2009 Chapel Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

Chapel Hill have a lovely new website and it’s about time. That’s not meant to be cruel. It’s just that a winery that is cranking out such classy releases deserves a good shopfront, so to speak.

Raspberries and redcurrants on the surface, cassis underneath with a weave of capsicum and a hint of tobacco leaf filling out the palate. Some bitter, dark chocolate and licorice too. Toasty, cedary oak isn’t overplayed. Surprisingly fresh for a warm vintage but in no way lacking regional stuffing. I hade a small question mark over the acidity on day one but it’s settled down nicely today.

Those who doubt the ability of McLaren Vale to produce high quality Cabernet would do well to have a look at this. Very Good
