2010 Windowrie The Mill Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Central Ranges 12.0% Screwcap $16.99 Source: Sample

In 2009, Windowrie made the decision to source the fruit for their wines from the Hilltops, Orange and Mudgee regions, all within 100 miles of the winery in Cowra. Australia has a fine tradition of multi-regional blending and the winery’s decision, which arose out of a desire to focus on increasing quality, is one I personally applaud. There are many ways to approach wine and intelligent multi-regional blending is as valid as any other as far as I’m concerned.

This is a very enjoyable Sauvignon Semillon blend. It doesn’t scale any dizzying heights but the price is fair and it works. Lemons over limes, cut grass and lemongrass with some tropical fruits. An expressive, pure bouquet. It’s vibrant and finishes with good, chalky length and tart green apple skins.

Not a wine that is aiming for great complexity, just impressive clean, varietal drinking. It’s the sort of wine a lot of punters are after and it’s better quality than many end up buying. Really good with fish and chips by the way.
