2007 Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo

Adelaide Hills 14.5% Screwcap $11.99

I have NO idea how you can get a Nebbiolo this good at this price. Simply astonishing & my pick of the wines I tasted from the store that day. For the Neb enthusiast this has the charmingly light colour that is a hallmark of wines made from the grape. At the rim we get orange and brick hues.

Lovely, expressive nose of candied fruits, orange peel, lavender, dark chocolate, cherries and marzipan. And a dozen other things too. Just what I’m after really. Despite its ABV, it is only medium bodied with graceful juiciness acting as a well judged counter point to assertive but ultra fine tannins of superb quality.

I think good Nebbiolos are elusive and this is no exception. It isn’t really about fruit and there are some fascinating pitch characters on the palate. It’s linear, muscular and complex. There is slight drop off in the middle of the line before everything kicks back in on a tantalising ending.

The more time I gave this, the more varietal it became and it showed no signs of fading at any point. It just got better. A steal for the price.
